On September 2, Mr. Lim Hua En, President of Singapore's National Research Foundation (NRF), led a delegation on a visit to Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). He was received by Zeng Xiaoqin, Member of the University Party Standing Committee and Vice President, at the Minhang Campus. The two sides held in-depth discussions on deepening scientific research collaboration and expanding synergistic development in cutting-edge fields. The delegation included Mr. Chen Quancheng, Director of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). The meeting was also attended by senior representatives from SJTU, including Sheng Xinjun, Vice Dean of the Division of Research Management and Dean of the Advanced Industrial Technology Research Institute.
Zeng Xiaoqin extended a warm welcome to Lim Hua En and his delegation, emphasizing that SJTU has long enjoyed fruitful collaborations with universities and research institutions in Singapore. He introduced that SJTU is now focusing on six major action initiatives: "Ocean, Health, Information, Materials, Energy, and Grand neoBay," aiming to build a full-chain research ecosystem from "science to engineering to industry" to provide solid support for interdisciplinary innovation.
Lim Hua En expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from SJTU and spoke highly of the existing collaborative foundation between the two sides. He stated that the NRF remains committed to advancing the development of a vibrant research and innovation ecosystem, and he was deeply impressed by SJTU's strategic planning in frontier technologies, as well as its achievements in technology transfer and innovation incubation. He added that he looks forward to using this visit as an opportunity to drive deeper and broader collaboration between NRF and the university.
During their visit, the delegation also toured several key facilities, including the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism (School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology), the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering (School of Ocean and Civil Engineering), the National Engineering Research Center for Nanotechnology, the Grand neoBay One-Kilometer Incubator, and the Science and Technology Achievement Transfer Center.
The delegation was accompanied by representatives from the Division of Research Management and Development and the SJTU International Affairs Division.
